Why extreme minimalism?
From the Marie Kondo era and her inspiration from her book The Magic Art of Tidying up and all the known inspiration of Goodbye things by Fumio Sasaki, minimalism has been on my mind and something I have been pursuing for four years now. Although decluttering and pairing down my belongings has been a journey and I filled many bags to take to a donation station, I was left stuck at a plateau of minimalism. I was still in a cycle of acquiring new things and donating things. I couldn't seem to shake it.
What finally transformed my living was the idea of extreme minimalism. I feel this concept can be used personally and there is no one standard of what extreme minimalism is. For me this took on the ideas of the Ten Item Wardrobe inspired by Jennifer Scott and her book series, Lessons from Madame Chic. Why not pare down my things to only what I need for a season? Could I really function with only ten clothing items?
With all the great inspiration that has come before me, all the habits I start to pick up have created a new mindset and a new freedom in life. When I am not consumed by consumerism, I am able to spend more time with my loved ones, to spend more time in nature and pursue other interests.
